Brands--Finding Company That Owns a Brand

1.   Do a trademark search through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Companies that have a specific product name that they want to protect will register is as a trademark.  Go to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office web site at:  See the links for “Trademarks” in the left hand column and the select “Search TM database.”  There are several search options offered.  Try the New User Search Form and enter your search term.  Multiple records may come up.  A product description and owner will be provided for each record.  Records labeled “dead” are ones where the trademark has not been renewed or has expired.

2. Check industry specific directories.  For example the Thomasnet Online is a great source for the brand names of manufactured products.  This directory lists manufacturers in the U.S. and Canada.  You can locate Thomasnet
