Troubleshooting

The following are common problems you may encounter when trying to set up and run the Tell Me More database.

Black Screen

If the screen goes blank when you try to start a Tell Me More course, the issue is most likely with Flash software on your computer. These instructions should help you reinstall Flash Player and resolve the issue.

The Auralog components won't install

If you get to a page that tells you to install components, but then you can't get past that page, the issue may be that your computer's sound card allows for multiple inputs, and you have to tell it which one to use. These instructions will show you how to select the appropriate input and complete the component installation.

The computer is not configured to allow installation of Auralog components

If you are using Internet Explorer 7, you may encounter a screen that says "This computer's current configuration does not allow you to install Auralog components…" This issue can be resolved by adjusting the security levels on your browser. These instructions will show you how to configure Internet Explorer 7 so that it will work with the Tell Me More database.

The language course won't start. I get a screen that says "Tell Me More always opens in a new screen."

When you launch a Tell Me More language course, it opens in a new window. If this window doesn't appear, it is probably because a pop-up blocker has prevented the window from opening. These instructions will show you how to resolve this issue by allowing pop-ups from the Tell Me More site.

The speech recognition components are not working.

If Tell Me More's speech-recognition components are not working, the issue is most likely in your computer's sound settings, or in the microphne connection. It may also be that the microphone setting in Tell Me More needs to be adjusted. These instructions will help you troubleshoot all three of these issues.

The interface is in a language I don't understand.

After you log into Tell Me More, you will see a drop-down menu in the top right corner of the screen. This menu allows you to choose the language for your interface. Choose your native language from the menu and Tell Me More will translate the screen to the selected language, and will automatically use that language the next time you log on.
