Our Changing Parks
Parks help us understand how our lives are influenced by change and how interconnected we are with our environment. Predicted warming of the climate system could mean significant changes in our national parks.
Robert Garza, an interpretive park ranger at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, tells how the National Park Service is addressing this challenge through the Climate Change Response Program.

Milagros Craft
Join in creating milagros, which are religious folk charms traditionally used for healing purposes and as votive offerings in Mexico, the southern United States and other areas of Latin America. This program is part of Nuestras Raíces: a celebration of Mexican-American authors, arts and culture. All ages welcome!
Milagros are frequently attached to altars, shrines and sacred objects found in places of worship. In some areas, they can be purchased in churches or from street vendors. In Spanish, the word milagro means miracle. They also are carried for protection and good luck and are found as components in necklaces, earrings and other jewelry.

Author Presentation
Author: Lili DeBarbieri
Join travel writer Lili DeBarbieri, whose book A Guide to Southern Arizona's Historic Farms and Ranches: Rustic Southwest Retreats (July 2012) for a journey into the rural West south of the Gila River.
With roots dating back to the mid-1800s, Southern Arizona's historic guest ranches and farm stays include Spain's first mission in the continental United States, a former World War II prison camp, a boys' boarding school and a Butterfield Stagecoach stop. Intimately connected to Arizona's land and legacy, these unparalleled retreats have hosted countless artists, movie stars and politicians and continue to enrich their present-day communities through food, education and conservation.
The program is presented by the Friends of the Salazar-Ajo Library.
