Word Journeys
Since 2001, Word Journeys has brought together high school mentors and elementary school students to have fun with words and expressive arts.
At the Woods Memorial Branch Library, teens build job and leadership skills while working with elementary students in workshops that invite both groups to think, write, draw, play, and act around a theme. Each semester finds them out in the community exploring during a field trip, be it in a museum, theater or gallery. In 2008, Word Journeys was awarded the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities Coming Up Taller award for excellence in afterschool education.
