Web Strategies for Nonprofits

The program will focus on overall web strategy for nonprofits. Topics to be discussed include:

• using Wordpress as a content management system
• blogging's importance for nonprofits
• how to use social media, specifically Facebook, to develop relationships with donors, advocates, and volunteers,
• why email is a nonprofit's most important and misunderstood tool

You’ll also gain an understanding of the rising importance of content curation in 2013 and discover tools to make sharing content easy. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

Family Storytime is for all ages. It is an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way.

Read to a Dog

Children are invited to read to a Certified Therapy Dog. One of the favorite things for the dog to do is listen to children read lots of stories. Reading to a dog or other pet can help new and reluctant readers gain confidence, increase important reading skills, and develop a love of reading.

Reptiles of Southern Arizona!

Learn about some of the more common and interesting reptiles in Southern Arizona, and how they are often misunderstood. Live animals will be present.
This program is presented by Colossal Cave Mountain Park.

Sustainable and Organic Landscaping

The class will focus on alternative and organic practices for landscape maintenance. We will identify practices to abate and control weeds, pests and plant disease. We will also discuss proper pruning techniques and sustainable processes for increasing the longevity of landscape plants. Presented by Realm Environments.

Free program. Parking is free on Saturdays.

Our computer instructor is available to answer any questions you might have on a wide variety of computer topics. Topics include resume writing, online job searching, email accounts, Internet searching and more. Signup is not required.

Individual Job Counseling

A job counselor from Career Services Unlimited will provide free, one-on-one career counseling on topics including resume writing, choosing a career, updating your interviewing, networking and job search skills, and more.

Grants Databases Open Lab

This is an opportunity for volunteers, staff and board members of nonprofit and community organizations to research private grantmakers on the Foundation Directory Online and the Arizona Guide to Grants databases with a librarian present to give hints and tips on how to maximize search results.

Seating at a computer is on a first-come, first-served basis.

eBook and Audiobook Workshop

Seeking help with your portable device? Looking for one-on-one help with downloading and transferring a book using your computer? Bring it to the library for demonstrations, questions, and hands-on help.

The Catalina room is located on the second floor of the Joel D Valdez Main Library. You may register online or by calling 791-4010, and drop-ins are also welcome.

Preschool Storytime

Designed for 3- to 5-year-olds and their parents or caregivers. Stories are longer than the Toddler Storytime and the activities are more complex. Children must be able to sit still for a longer period of time than during Toddler Storytime. Preschool Storytime is 30 to 45 minutes long.
