Native Seeds/SEARCH and Sustainability
The Southwest is a region of immense natural beauty, stunning cultural richness, and among the continent's greatest food security challenges. To meet these challenges we need a relocalized agricultural system that emphasizes resiliency, sustainability, and adaptation to climate change. For thirty years, the Tucson-based nonprofit Native Seeds/SEARCH has been conserving the priceless diversity of traditional crops uniquely adapted to our region by over 4,000 years of continuous cultivation by Native farmers. This diversity is key to the future food systems of the Southwest.
Please join Chris Schmidt, Director of Conservation at Native Seeds/SEARCH, to learn about the work his organization does to support Native communities and to build a sustainable future for our arid region, and how you can get involved.
