Introduction to Computers and the Internet Series

This series of Oasis Connections computer skills classes will cover:

  • basics of using a computer
  • introduction to the internet
  • searching the internet
  • overview of the library's web site, including the online catalog and My Account
  • online security
  • email

Registration for this series in begins on March 15. To register, stop by Murphy-Wilmot Branch Library or call 594-5420.

This series of classes at Murphy-Wilmot Branch Library will be 8 sessions, held on Wednesday and Friday mornings starting on April 23 and ending on May 16.

Learn English for Free / Aprenda Inglés Gratis

Literacy Volunteers of Tucson and the library are offering a free program to adults over the age of 18 who want to learn how to speak, read, and write English. The current program at the Valencia Branch runs through April 2008. The next series of classes begins June 3.

Registration is open only during the first four classes. Call 520-594-5390 to register; or to get on a waiting list for the next available series of classes.

Family Place Parent / Child Workshops

Join the fun during this five-week program for families with children ages 1 to 4 years.

Each week in May, a Family Place workshop will feature age-appropriate toys, crafts, books and play.

Community experts in different areas of child development will also be on hand to discuss parenting concerns about speech and hearing, physical fitness, nutrition and behavior.

This program was made possible by a grant from the Friends of the Pima County Public Library.

Designed for children 18- to 36-months-old. Parents/caregivers and children interact through stories, songs, and rhymes. Stories are kept short to fit the toddlers' short attention spans. Each Toddler storytime is 20 to 30 minutes long. It is an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way. At Storytime, children have an opportunity to do activities that promote development and learning. All programs are designed for parents to participate with their children. Arrangements for school, daycare or other group visits need to be made in advance.

Introducción a la Computación/Introducción a Microsoft Word

Introducción a la computación: Los estudiantes se familiarizaran con las computadoras por medio de una breve introducción la cual se enfocará en palabras claves asociadas con la computación, métodos correctos para encender, apagar, re-encender una computadora, el uso correcto del ratón, y la forma correcta de abrir y cerrar un programa. Microsoft Word: Los estudiantes se familiarizaran con Microsoft Word por medio de una introducción de las partes básicas del programa, tales como; Title bar (barra de títulos), Menu bar (barra de menús), Tool bar (barra de herramientas), Ruler (regla), Document View (Vista de documento, Text area (área de texto), etc. Los estudiantes podrán realizar trabajos, tales como, cartas, reportes, tablas, etc., también podrán guardar y abrir documentos previamente almacenados.
