Happiness Community Conversations

Beginning the week of October 14, and extending for five weeks, several library branches will be hosting Happiness Community Conversations, open to the public, for youth and adults. These conversations complement the University of Arizona’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences 2013 Downtown Lecture Series on Happiness.

Participants in the Happiness Community Conversations are encouraged to attend the UA Happiness Lecture Series, held on five Wednesdays from mid-October to mid-November at the Fox Theatre downtown, but it is not a requirement. The library conversations will include ideas from the lectures and take a creative and community leap forward, encouraging "next steps" for Tucson's residents to take as individual and community members in order to create a happier and more prosperous Tucson.

All the sessions are facilitated by professionals who work with Community Renaissance. For more information about Community Renaissance, contact Anita Fonte at 520-331-5582 or visit the website community-renaissance.com.

During the discussion this summary of the World Happiness Report may be referenced.

This week's topic: The Evolutionary Links between Exercise and Happiness

Suggested Community Conversation Questions:

  • What physical activity do you do that generates a sense of happiness? How often do you do it?
  • When you aren’t participating in a favorite physical activity, do you notice a change in your mood? Describe it.
  • Describe the feelings you have when you are doing your favorite physical activity. What physical activity you have yet to try do you think might also generate a sense of increased happiness in your life?
