Read to a Dog

Hey kids! Read to a therapy dog and have fun while improving your reading skills! The dog loves to have books read to it. It never criticizes your reading skills and will often lick your hand to show her appreciation. It just loves to be read to by children.

Science for Kids: Eat Your Heart Out

Learn about the science of nutrition and how what you eat affects your heart. Kim Ohl, R.N. Public Health Nurse from the Pima County Health Department will be here with healthy snacks, a giant heart model, stethoscopes so you can listen to your heart, blood pressure testing machine you can try out, and test tubes of icky stuff.

Come check it out! Geared toward children aged 5-12 years old and their parents.

Space is limited. Please arrive early to ensure a seat.

Get your free ticket at the Service Desk 30 minutes prior to program start.

Children are invited to read to a Certified Therapy Dog. One of the favorite things for the dog to do is listen to children read lots of stories. Reading to a dog or other pet can help new and reluctant readers gain confidence, increase important reading skills, and develop a love of reading.

Traditional Art: Yoeme (Yaqui)

Try your hand creating traditional Yoeme (Yaqui) art out of air-dry clay at this free two-part workshop with Louis David Valenzuela, one of only two traditional Yoeme carvers this side of the border.

Louis shares the story of his people through woodcarvings, sculptures, and paintings. His award-winning art has been exhibited in many U.S. galleries & museums, as well as at Hokkaido University in Japan.
