Saturday Family Storytime

Family Storytime is for all ages. It is an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way.

Romance: More than 50 Shades

The Saguaro Chapter of the Romance Writers of America (RWA) will present a panel discussion, including:

• 12 pm to 1:30 pm – A Q&A, lead by Jesse Petersen, Roz Denny Fox, Connie Flynn, and Frankie Robertson. Topics covered will be creating characters, starting the book, sagging middles, and ending with a bang.
• 2 pm to 4 pm – Vicki Lewis Thompson, Mary Tate Engels, and Cynthia Garner will facilitate a workshop in which participants create a heroine.

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is a software program for creating and showing presentations that include slides, outlines, speaker's notes and audience handouts. In this course designed for beginners, you will learn the fundamentals of PowerPoint. Practice using text, pictures and clip art, and then edit your presentation to make it look professional.
General knowledge of the Windows operating system and some knowledge of Microsoft Word are recommended prerequisites.

Mahjong Monday

Come learn and play Mahjong with us! These sessions are intended to help keep Senior's minds sharp and to expand Seniors' social experiences. (board games and card games are also offered.)

Exception: Mahjong Monday does not meet on Monday holidays when the library is closed.

Chess Club at Himmel

Join us every Monday to play chess and meet some friends. No experience necessary, just enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. All ages are welcome.

The Powerbroker by Bonnie Boswell is a biography of activist and reformer Whitney Young who faced opposition by both white business and political leaders who fought his efforts to create equal opportunity and Black Americans who felt his efforts conflicted with those of the Black Power Movement.

Advanced English Language Conversation Class / Clases de Conversación de Inglés avanzadas

Practice your English conversation skills with trained, volunteer tutors from Literacy Volunteers of Tucson. Classes may include some reading and writing to stimulate discussion. Call 594-5305 to inquire.
Parents please note that children cannot attend these classes. Parents must make their own childcare arrangements for children under the age of 8.

Teen Gaming

All teens are invited to come in and rock out to Rock Band® or test your sporting skills on Wii! Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero are also available. For more information stop by the library or call 594-5305.

Homework Help

Free tutoring is available on site for all ages. Subjects include math, science, social studies and writing. Help available in Spanish, subject to availability.

Introduction to Computers

In this fun, hands-on course you will learn all the basic computer skills including using the mouse and keyboard, working in Microsoft Windows, using Microsoft Word, surfing the Internet and using Email. This course is ideal for someone who has a little experience with the computer but wants to know more.

Note: If you have never touched a computer or keyboard before, you may benefit from attending our Meet the Computer course prior to Introduction to Computers.

Read to a Dog

Hey Kids! Read to Homer and have fun while improving your reading skills. Therapy dogs love to have books read to them. They never criticize your reading skills and will often give you a "kiss".

Toddler Storytime

Designed for children 18- to 36-months-old. Parents/caregivers and children interact through stories, songs, and rhymes. Stories are kept short to fit the toddlers' short attention spans. Each Toddler storytime is 20 to 30 minutes long.

Babytime

Designed for babies up to 18 months of age. At Storytime, children have an opportunity to do activities that promote development and learning.
