Happiness Community Conversations

Beginning the week of October 14, and extending for five weeks, several library branches will be hosting Happiness Community Conversations, open to the public, for youth and adults. These conversations complement the University of Arizona’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences 2013 Downtown Lecture Series on Happiness.

Participants in the Happiness Community Conversations are encouraged to attend the UA Happiness Lecture Series, held on five Wednesdays from mid-October to mid-November at the Fox Theatre downtown, but it is not a requirement. The library conversations will include ideas from the lectures and take a creative and community leap forward, encouraging "next steps" for Tucson's residents to take as individual and community members in order to create a happier and more prosperous Tucson.

All the sessions are facilitated by professionals who work with Community Renaissance. For more information about Community Renaissance, contact Anita Fonte at 520-331-5582 or visit the website community-renaissance.com.

During the discussion this summary of the World Happiness Report may be referenced.

This week's topic: How Our Surroundings Influence Happiness and Health

Suggested Community Conversation Questions:

  • Describe a favorite place from your past that generated a sense of happiness for you. What three elements of that place do you think contributed to your happiness?
  • Currently, do you have a place that you go to that contributes to your sense of happiness? How often do you go there?
  • If you could build a small space in your home, yard, patio or porch that would be symbolic of your “happy place” what would it look like?
