Skins: Design A Food Sticker

Have you ever noticed the information on a fruit or vegetable sticker? What do those tiny numbers and symbols mean?

Morgana Cooper tells about the elements of a fruit or vegetable sticker and leads in designing a label for food grown in Ajo. There will be plenty of fruits and vegetables on hand for analyzing and eating.

Skins: Sculpt a Peel

Morgana Cooper hosts the second in a series of "Skins" events at the library. After looking closely at (and tasting too) a fruit or vegetable, participants will sculpt its peel. Join us to play with texture, shape, and form while we make food peels out of clay.

Skins: Haiku Poetry

Curley School artist Karen Sucharski teaches how to write haiku poetry. She also will help transfer participants' poems onto tile and other materials to create works of art for the garden or other outdoor spaces.

Skins: Ethnographic Food Mapping

Share your story about where your food comes from. Do you eat traditional foods? Has your diet changed in your culture over time? Participants will learn about where food comes from by creating an ethnographic map -- a map showing the geographic distribution and relationships between the foods of different people and cultures. Come and create imagery of how our food travels from its origin to our dinner tables.

Skins: Food Art

Let's turn food into art! Participants first will look at the work of artists who have used food as art and then will carve and sculpt their own creation, using various fruits and vegetables to create sculpture, centerpieces and even installations. A photographer will be on hand to capture the items before they decompose!
