Read to a Dog

Children are invited to read to a Certified Therapy Dog. One of the favorite things for the dog to do is listen to children read lots of stories. Reading to a dog or other pet can help new and reluctant readers gain confidence, increase important reading skills, and develop a love of reading.

Love Free or Die by Macky Alston is a documentary about New Hampshire's openly gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson and the struggle of LGBT people to receive full acceptance in their faith.

Free Screenings of PBS films are made possible through a partnership with Independent Television Service Community Cinema, PBS Independent Lens, Arizona Public Media, and Pima County Public Library's Now Showing at Your Library documentary film series.

Parking downtown is free on weekends. Discussion time will follow screening.

Yep, Midday Monday Madness Movies is now playing in your space on the second floor all summer long. Join us for a magnificent mix of movies and some meltingly cool treats—and as usual, teens only!

Drop-in Job Help

Our computer instructor is available to answer any questions you might have on a wide variety of computer topics. Topics include resume writing, online job searching, email accounts, Internet searching and more. Signup is not required.

Artist Reception

Arts for All provides accessible education, training, and experiences in the arts to children, particularly those with special needs. Participant artwork will be displayed in the glass cases throughout the month of June. Join us for an artist reception and peruse the wonderful 3D artwork in the Main Library lobby.

Crafternoon

Dig into your creative side every Tuesday this summer—kids of all ages can get out of the heat and draw, glue, color and glitter to the max!

Reading Partners

Reading Partners brings adult volunteers and children together to share their love of reading. Our trained Reading Partner Anita takes joy in reading stories one-on-one to your child during your visit to the library. They also welcome your child reading to them.

Reading Partners is generously supported by the Friends of the Pima County Public Library.

Dig In! Library Plaza Planter Project

It's time to Dig In-to the planters in front of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library!

If you would like to join in this beautification effort, please attend this, or one of the other, scheduled planting design workshops. These workshops will be held in the café table area on the first floor of the Main Library.

No gardening experience is necessary. We will provide mentors and other resources. You bring your enthusiasm and vision! Work with your friends, family, co-workers or come on your own.

We will hold a planting shindig the morning of DIY Day, Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Sun Tran Public Meeting

Preschool Storytime

Designed for 3- to 5-year-olds and their parents or caregivers. Stories are longer than the Toddler Storytime and the activities are more complex. Children must be able to sit still for a longer period of time than during Toddler Storytime. Preschool Storytime is 30 to 45 minutes long.
