Read to a Dog

Children are invited to read to a Certified Therapy Dog. One of the favorite things for the dog to do is listen to children read lots of stories. Reading to a dog or other pet can help new and reluctant readers gain confidence, increase important reading skills, and develop a love of reading.

The Haiku and Cinquain - Exploring Short Forms in Poetry

Presented by Tony Luebbermann.
April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate, the Woods Library is offering a poetry class on two short poetry forms—the Haiku and the Cinquain—one is well known and the other less so.

Handouts and discussion will precede writing exercises. The emphasis in this short introduction to these forms will be on interacting and generating ideas and their poetic expression rather than strictly following the "rules" of the forms. Other short nonce forms will be introduced and explored as time permits.

And, oh yes, the idea is to have fun!
