  • Special group storytimes/programs focusing on age-appropriate content.

What's a Group?

Groups are defined as five or more children or teens accompanied by an adult. We can best serve your group's needs by working together to plan a successful visit that will benefit your group.

Benefits of Library Visits for Youth

Young people who visit the library:

Develop the library habit.
Children and teens who regularly visit the library learn to use library resources and develop lifelong reading interests.
Experience socialization.
Regular storytime attendance helps children learn how to behave while visiting a public institution.
Develop language.
Children who participate in library programs may experience a greater development of language skills. Storytime attendance develops pre-reading skills.
Experience cultural diversity.
Our programs are designed to represent diverse cultures and literature of the world. In the collection you will find many multicultural materials.
Learn research techniques.
The library collection contains books, magazines, audio/visual, and electronic resources to support students in independent learning and classroom assignments.

For a Successful Visit: A Groupleader's Checklist

  • Schedule your visit at least two weeks in advance. Check with the librarian at your branch, as more advance notice may be necessary.
  • Discuss the specific needs of your group with the librarian before your visit.
  • Call and cancel if you are not able to keep your appointment.
  • Assist the librarian in maintaining order in the group. There should be enough adult chaperones with the students to adequately supervise their behavior at all times.
  • Come to sessions specifically designed for your group rather than publicly advertised programs.
  • Provide a positive role model by participating in the activities being presented.
  • Obtain library card applications and agreement forms from the circulation desk prior to your visit.
  • Return completed and signed forms to the library at least two weeks prior to your visit to allow adequate time to process.

Plan and Schedule a Library Visit

The Pima County Public Library youth services staff encourages scheduled visits by groups to the library. Planning will make each library visit a memorable and enriching experience.

Unscheduled group visits are difficult to accommodate. Advance notice assures that adequate staffing is available to give your group the attention they require.

Groups of 5 or more without prior arrangements may be asked to leave and reschedule if the group causes disruptions in the library due to inadequate supervision.
