Annual Events - El Día de los Niños / El Día de los Libros 2007
Pima County Public Library held its 10th annual celebration of El Día de los Niños / El Día de los Libros in April 2007. Most library branches and the Joel D. Valdez Main Library presented a variety of programs from April 16-30 highlighting the multilingual and multicultural aspects of Tucson's population.
Programs includee puppet shows, a Teddy Bear Picnic, special storytimes, crafts, storytellers and other presenters.
These programs were sponsored by the Pima County Public Library, Pima County, Friends of the Pima County Public Library and the Tucson chapter of REFORMA.
It is the mission of the library to increase awareness of the cultural heritages of others and to satisfy the desire of a culturally diverse community to recapture their own cultural heritage.

Whimsical puppeteer Gwen Ray of the Hanuman Puppet Theater will entertain children and adults of all ages with the tale of La Mariposa. Come share the fun!

Gwen Ray of the Hanuman Puppet Theater will present A TrollÂ’s Tale. Someone is trip trapping over Troll's bridge. But is it goats? Come solve the mystery of this old tale with an environmental twist.

In celebration of El Día de los Niños / El Día de los Libros, kids can learn how to make a paper craft called papel picado. The KidZart organization will conduct this fun-filled program.

Come fly a kite! Ron Reich, international kite expert, will give every child a paper kite to color and fly. He will also present an animated and interactive presentation of "The Legend of the First Kite." This program is best for children ages 3 to 10.

- This program is for children ages 8 to 12. Space limited, so registration is required.
Preschool Storytime
Designed for 3- to 5-year-olds and their parents or caregivers. Stories are longer than the Toddler Storytime and the activities are more complex. Children must be able to sit still for a longer period of time than during Toddler Storytime. Preschool Storytime is 30 to 45 minutes long.
Storytime is a free service of the Pima County Public Library. It is an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way. At Storytime, children have an opportunity to do activities that promote development and learning. All programs are designed for parents to participate with their children; arrangements for school, daycare, or other group visits need to be made in advance.

Make cascarones and crepe paper flowers; enjoy folklorico dancers from Pueblo Gardens Elementary; watch a bilingual puppet play, Billy Goat and the Chili Patch/El Cabrito y El Jardín de Chili performed by members of the Quincie Douglas Children's Advisory Team; and listen to an eight-year-old classical guitarist in this celebration of children and reading.
